The IITPSA Computer Professional Education Program, offered in partnership with ACS,  is a masters-level program offered online, so you can schedule your studies around your professional career, family life and social activities. There are three 13-week study periods each calendar year.

To enrol for the CPE qualification, you will be:  A South African-based voting member of the IITPSA with a 3 year IT related qualification who is employed and has been working in an ICT role for 18 months or more, and who;

1. Meets the entry requirements of the CPE Program
2. Demonstrates support from their employer.

The course is also suitable for IITPSA Members with 7 to 15 years experience in the information Technology sector.

The CPE Program is a professionally relevant postgraduate IT course now available to you in South Africa. It develops a strategic understanding of three core subjects and one elective:

Core:
Risk Management: Professionalism and Compliance, New Technology Alignment, Business, Strategy and IT.

Electives: Choose one of:
Adaptive Business Intelligence, Business Process Improvement (using Lean Six Sigma), IT Service Management, Project Management, Enterprise Architecture, Green ICT
Organisational Change Management, Information Security, Consultancy, Business Analysis.

Electives can be taken as single standalone subjects outside of the full CPE Program. A certificate is issued for single elective subject completion. Elective subject students still must satisfy the pre-requisites for entry for the CPE Program and submit a CV for review.

Students may apply for recognition of prior Learning (RPL) for any of the subjects within CPE Program, except the Professional Practice subject. Note: RPL is only given for 50 per cent of the program. Read more about RPL.

Professional Practice:
Professional Practice is a reflective diary providing you with an opportunity to record your work and learning experiences while enrolled in the program, and to reflect on how you can improve your performance. This subject commences in either the first or second subject. You will work with an experienced ACS mentor who can guide you through this process and work to develop your career opportunities.

The CPE Program offers true mobility in the learning environment.  The modules are web based and can be completed at any time you choose.  A commitment of 8-10 hours a week is expected over three study periods per year.

Study periods:
There are three 13-week study periods each calendar year:
  • January to April
  • May to August
  • September to December

You can start the CPE Program in any given study period. You can also have a break between study periods. 

Note: If there are less than 10 enrolments in a core subject or less than seven in an elective subject, then the subject may not be offered in a specific study period. Students will be given the option of transferring to another subject, deferring until the specific subject is offered again, or receiving a refund.

We recommend that only one subject be taken in any one study period. If you wish to undertake more than one subject in a study period, you must get prior approval after discussions with the Principal and/or Registrar.

Program delivery.Delivery of the CPE Program is through online learning, using our own learning portal as well as email, discussion forums, website research and online access to other educational materials.

 
Students will not attend a classroom or lecture theatre and there are no face to face lectures. Assessments include assignments and participation in online discussion forums. 
 
Student discussion forums are an essential learning tool. Tutors, or learning facilitators, will be moderators for the discussion forums to provide supportive dialogue and assistance when required. You will be required to communicate online on a weekly basis, adhering to set deadlines.

Time commitment.

You will need to dedicate approximately 8-10 hours per week per subject, which will include reading, communicating with fellow students and tutors, and preparing assignments

Study groups.

Student discussion forums are an essential learning tool in the program. You are encouraged to contribute honest and critical evaluations of your professional experiences, how you have put your learning into practice, and also comment on the experiences and ideas from your fellow students.

Upon commencement of the program, the students will be allocated a study group, or cohort, and they will continue with this group until the subject finishes. Discussions will be moderated by a tutor, or learning facilitator, who will sustain a timely and supportive dialogue with their students. They will be online to communicate with their students five or more days each week, and students will receive and respond to one or more messages every week from their tutors.
Deferrals. 

Deferral to next study period with no cost to student up to 21 days from commencement of study period then a sliding scale applies.  No refunds are given.  Assessment consists of two assignments per subject or an assignment and an exam.
