Regulations

The Computer Professional Education Program (CPEP) consists of four subjects, three core subjects – Risk Management: Professionalism and Compliance; Business, Strategy and IT and New Technology Alignment ; plus an elective subject of either  Adaptive Business Intelligence; IT Service Management, Project Management, Enterprise Architecture, Green Technology Strategies and Organisational Change Management. You should complete at least one core subject (BLE) prior to enrolling in the elective subject. The Computer Professional Education Program also requires completion of the Professional Practice Report which is a reflective diary providing students with an opportunity to record their experiences while enrolled in the program, and to reflect on how they acted and what they might have done to improve their performance. The Professional Practice subject forms part of the assessment of the program and all eligible students must complete this to successfully finish the program.

The Computer Professional Education Program takes approximately 18 months to complete, with a maximum time limit of three years for completion, from the date of initial enrolment.

Group discussions are an essential element of the Computer Professional Education Program and participation in these discussions is compulsory and is part of the final assessment of each subject.

Students in the Program must be Members of the IITPSA and satisfy at least one of the following criteria;

  • Be a graduate of an IITPSA accredited degree in ICT (or equivalent) with 18 months relevant work experience.
  • Be a graduate of an South African bachelor degree or equivalent overseas qualification with a minimum of five years relevant experience with the last two years.
  • Be a graduate of an South African diploma in ICT or equivalent overseas qualification with a minimum six years relevant experience.
  • Hold one of the following vendor certifications – MCSE, MCSD, CLP and CNE gained from 1997, and CDE, Master CNE, CNI, CCE, and OCM gained from 2004, and MCPD and MCITP gained from 2007, with a total of not less than six years relevant experience post-Certification.
  • Members who do not have any formal ICT qualifications at AQF 5 and above with a minimum of ten years relevant experience with at least two (2) years at SFIA level 4 or above.  

Students must also, at least at the time of enrolment, be in ICT-related employment.  Recognition of Prior Learning may be accepted for up to 50% of the Program, but is subject to the discretion of the Principal and Chief Examiner of the Program in consultation with the Registrar and Assessor. RPL should not be an automatic expectation of students with experience or prior study in a similar subject.

If you wish to defer or withdraw from your studies, our policy is to credit the enrolment fee to the next study period. If you wish to defer for a longer period, this must be discussed with the Registrar before approval and credit can be given. You must fill in a request to defer/withdraw for credit to the next study period. A full credit is given if applied for within 21days of the commencement of your study period. After 21 days, a sliding scale credit system applies;

  • Up to 21 days from commencement of study period    100% credit
  • Up to five weeks from commencement of study period     85% credit
  • Up to nine weeks from commencement of study period     50% credit

After nine weeks from commencement of the study period, no credits will be given. Study periods normally run for 13 weeks.

Note: No cash refunds will be given, only credit to enrol in the next study period. (Or a longer period if approved).
Assignment Policies.

Presentation of Assignments:
A high quality presentation of assignments is expected of CPEP students. Spelling, grammar and punctuation are all part of the quality process and should be checked prior to submission for assessment. The Harvard Referencing System MUST be used.

Assignment Extension Policy:
Students can obtain an extension for submission of their assignment on the following grounds: Illness, bereavement, or extenuating circumstances. The application for an extension should  be made to the tutor prior to the scheduled due date of the assignment. Extensions have to be approved by the tutor and a final date must be set for submission of the assignment. If the agreed submission date is not met, a fail result may be recorded.

Assignment Resubmission Policy:
There are three pieces of assessment for each subject of the CPE Program.  Two assignments plus participation in the discussion forums. Two assignments are required for each subject and should achieve a pass or higher grade. If you fail your assignment (less than 50%) you can resubmit (subject to the approval of your tutor) your assignment within two weeks from receipt of your fail notification.  You should continue with your current workload in the subject if your resubmission is for assignment 1. Your resubmission date will be specified by your tutor and if your resubmission is not received by this date a fail result may be recorded for your assignment.

Assessment of each subject within the Computer Professional Education Program will consist of two or three assignments and participation in discussion forums.  Each assignment is marked at a percentage of the final result, i.e. Assignment 1 50%; Assignment 2 30%; Discussion Forums 20% = final result totals 100%. Grading policy is:

  • Below 49 Fail
  • 50-59 Pass
  • 60-69 Credit
  • 70-79 Distinction 
  • 80-100 High Distinction

A Statement of Results is provided to students on successful completion of all assessment requirements Computer Professional Education Program.

Minimum Enrolment Policy – If less than 10 enrolments for a core subject and 7 for an elective subject, then this subject may not run in a specific study period. If the subject is not offered, students will be given the opportunity to transfer to another subject or given a refund.
