As many may know, IITPSA is the South African country member of IFIP (the International Federation for Information Processing), which has IT member societies / institutes from over 40 countries on 5 continents. Our Institute is also a member of IFIP IP3 (the International Professional Practice Partnership) which accredited our Professional designation (PMIITPSA) in July 2015, for a period of five years.

But, did you know that IFIP has 13 Technical Committees (TCs) and over 100 Working Groups (WGs), and that South Africa has numerous TC and WG representatives serving on these committees? These dedicated folk give of their time and resources to work on the various committees and grow the knowledge and use of ICTs in their particular knowledge domain and community of practice.

IFIP hosts an annual General Assembly (similar to an AGM), and our current GA representative is Prof. Rossouw von Solms of Nelson Mandela University. This year, GA is being hosted in Poznan Poland (22 to 24 September 2018), just after the hosting of the World Computer Congress at the Poznan University of Technology Lecture and Conference Centre (see picture).

I am honoured to be one of the people representing IITPSA at this year’s World Computer Congress, together with a number of our IFIP Technical Committee Representatives, and I will also be attending the IFIP GA as an observer. Prof von Solms and I will be making a short presentation to the General Assembly on IITPSA.
