IITPSA CIO Breakfast – An IITPSA KZN Chapter Event

May 28, 2019 @ 08:00 - 10:30

CIOs face a challenging environment, managing an ever-changing technology landscape, evolving roles and growing threats.

The IITPSA KZN Chapter invites you to attend an enlightening Business Breakfast covering some of the key issues facing the modern CIO.

Topic: The Digital-CIO playbook – Earning the right to disrupt

Kamal Ramsingh will speak about the Digital CIO playbook, which is a methodology designed to guide CIOs on how best to obtain and maintain the Right-to-Disrupt and in doing so, position their careers at the next level. This right must be maintained by building and managing an active ecosystem of Partners, People and Promoters – both internally and externally.

Kamal Ramsingh has occupied executive positions at large multinational consulting and systems integration firms and has also enjoyed success as an African ICT entrepreneur. Kamal has a BSc (Computer Science) and a Master’s in Business Leadership (cum laude)

Topic: The journey to digital with 5G, Cloud and Security

An exciting use case for 5G is Industry 4.0, which is the current trend of adopting automation and technologies such as the internet of things (IoT), cloud computing and AI within the digital services space. In the future, 5G will facilitate the next era of IoT referred to as ‘Massive IoT’. Chris Lazarus will speak about the exciting future of 5G and also Vodacom’s dedicated network security centre and cloud computing environment.

Chris Lazarus is the Vodacom managing executive for KZN. He has experience spanning over a decade in the telecoms industry. Chris joined Vodacom in 2005 as executive head of corporate solutions. Chris holds an MBA from Henley Management College in the UK and completed an executive development programme from Unisa.

Topic:  Business Cybersecurity Posture

The main focus of this topic will be emphasizing the strength of cybersecurity in businesses to help determine breach likelihood, risk control through identification, acceptance, mitigation and/or transference. A high level of consideration will be drawn to how your business is positioned against other industries and further align and prioritise cybersecurity investments from an informed point of view. To achieve this, there are considerations that businesses should keep in mind to achieve a better business cybersecurity posture. These include:

  • Security Operations centre / SIEM
  • Vulnerability Assessment
  • Penetration Testing

Joshua Paul Gardner is the operations director at ICONIS Cybersecurity Pty Ltd. Josh has over 10 years’ experience in the Information Technology sector with a great focus on Cybersecurity and IT Risk Management. He has a BSC Comp Science Honours, Fortinet NSE5, FortiSIEM, CISM and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Data Science and AI.
