Continuous Discovery and Design Collaboration in Product Teams: An IITPSA Eastern Cape Chapter Event

Product discovery is the work that we do to make decisions about what to build. Teresa Torres defines continuous discovery as weekly touch points with customers, by the team building the product, where they conduct small research activities, in pursuit of a desired product outcome. To use continuous discovery effectively, we can no longer work in silos. There are three roles that are typically required to ship a successful product: a product manager, an engineering lead and a design lead. If we are truly a collaborative team, then all three roles participate in key product decisions. This talk will cover examples of continuous discovery in product teams and the necessary collaboration between product managers, engineers and designers.

Presenter: Dr Marco Pretorius, Head of UX, Trivago, Dusseldorf, Germany

Marco leads the Experience Design, User Research and User Support teams at Trivago. He has built and led multi-disciplinary teams in international environments to discover and deliver product solutions. He has lived in Germany, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa, working in start-up to enterprise-sized organisations. Marco has a PhD from Nelson Mandela University where he is currently also a Research Associate at the Department of Computing Sciences and has published in 30+ refereed journals and conference publications. Marco is a member of the IITPSA, based in Germany.
