Digital Forensic Revolution-

Abstract:

The following areas will be discussed briefly:

• South Africa’s vs World context of Digital Forensics.
• Industry orientated work, and the value digital forensics brings.
• Emerging technology and privacy – eg. IoT, SmartCars, SmartGrids, BotNets, Struxnet etc.
• CyberKill chain (the process and thoughts behind how to approach Digital forensics work).
• Major economic factors growing and feeding digital forensics work.

About the Presenter:

Danny Myburgh is the Managing Director of Cyanre – The Computer Forensic Lab, which specializes in digital forensic investigations, data fraud trend analysis, electronic discovery services and data recovery.

Danny has a background in the South African Police Service and at his resignation held the rank of Superintendent/Colonel. He established the SAPS National Computer Crime Investigation Unit and held the position of Commander of the Unit from 2000 until 2002. His duties entailed the forensic investigation and analysis of computers at alleged crime scenes throughout the whole of South Africa, the seizure of computers and computer data, and the recovery and analysis of computer data for the purpose of prosecution. Following his career at the SAPS, he was employed at Deloitte Forensic and Dispute Services as the manager responsible for establishing their digital forensic capacity and conducting Computer Forensic Investigations throughout Africa. This position he held until February 2005.

Danny was the chairman of the Interpol African Working Party on Cyber Crime from 2002 until 2005 and represented Africa on the Interpol International Steering Committee on Cyber Crime. He is currently the chairman of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Cyber Forensic Forum and has been since 2011. He maintains close involvement with key Cyber Forensic entities and serves on the Board of Directors. Regular speaker at national and international conferences on Cybercrime
