An IITPSA Western Cape Chapter Event
Topic Abstract:
When people hear the term ‘game technology’ most think about playing computer games for fun, or of kids’ or young adults’ entertainment and programming. While gaming technology certainly has its roots in entertainment, the game industry now generates more revenue annually than the music and movie industries combined, and is starting to penetrate many other fields. Many more sectors are starting to use it, which is why the interactive entertainment industry has been rated the third most important future growth market by analysts. As part of the 4th Industrial Revolution, it creates new career paths, new ways of training and teaching and is becoming an invaluable tool for many industries – even in the medical engineering industries.
This talk will cover why this is and how South Africa can leapfrog into this industry.
The talk will be separated into two parts:
Part 1: What is ‘game technology’ and why is it important for your industry?
Part 2: ‘KEMET’ – a real world example of applied game technology in education.
Presenter:–
Lars Espeter has been working in the game industry and applying game technology for many different purposes for over twenty years. He has successfully applied game technology for interactive presentations, augmented reality projects, advertising and even during corporate and student training.
Since 2007, Lars has trained young adults in this new and fast-growing field to prepare them for successful future careers. He developed and managed a three year course for a German private design academy in two cities before he developed, started and managed the game technology course for Friends of Design and ran it until early last year. Lars now works for GDoutsourcing, a Friends of Design company, where he focuses on connecting alumni and current students with international companies. He continues to consult and monitors the game course he created, and his game students now work in game development, engineering, marketing, educational software developers, architects and several other industries, nationally and internationally.
