Topic: New Technologies in the Insurance Business: Block Chain, IOT and AI

The Lloyd’s insurance business process is over 300 years old and are leaders in providing specialist insurance such as insuring Satellites through to rugby player’s legs. However due to the rise of emerging markets, more widely available capital and the high cost of transacting business in the London market, London is losing market share. The market is in the process of addressing this, including the introduction of a range of new technologies. The presentation will look at what technologies are being explored to enhance products for our clients. Insurance use cases for Block Chain, IOT and AI will also be covered.

Speaker: Ruan Ebersohn (Lloyd’s insurance, U.K.)

Ruan Ebersohn obtained his BCom Computer Science and Information Systems Honours degree from UPE in 2004, where he also lectured for a year. Since 2016 he has been Program Manager for Miller Insurance Services in London. Miller is one of a select group of leading UK brokers who holds the title of Chartered Insurance Broker. Their annual turnover in 2017 was £136.5 million.

Ruan’s responsibilities include managing the Business Change and IT Programme within the company. He proposed an innovation committee which is responsible for investigating and nurturing innovation at Miller.

He currently project manages the following two strategic projects:

• Management Information reporting which involves the creation of a new data warehouse.
• Laptop rollout to support future ways of working. This includes remote offices in Singapore, Brussels and Paris.
