Abstract:

Warwick Leaper has spent around four years developing his innovation – compressed air energy storage.  Renewable energy from solar panels has the intermittent problem of cloud shadows on the panels and the daily problem of no sun from sunset to sunrise. Warwick’s invention uses electricity to compress air under very high pressures when the sun is shining, and then to use this stored air to generate electricity during the night and when excess power is required during the day.  The operation is seamless and plug-and-play to the energy user – no need to flip switches and tinker once the installation is in place.  The installation is contained in a small enclosure and silently does its job 24-7 and 365 days a year.

The main product of this innovation is a regular supply of electricity from solar panels, day or night, rain or shine.  It produces enough stored energy for large and medium electricity users.  Users are able to store energy during the night at low tariffs and then generate power during peak times and high tariffs.  And there’s more – the by-product of compressing the air is – water.  Lots of it – because water cannot be compressed it is extracted and can be collected. Another by-product is as much as a 65 percent drop in electricity bills….

Warwick will explain the innovation, talk about the IT sensors that are used in the system, and also give a personal account of his efforts to take the invention to working innovation, now in late stage beta testing.

Warwick is schooled as a Programmer, Electronic and Clinical Engineer with electrical, hydraulics and pneumatics expertise. Warwick and Magriet’s company is LIGE (Leaper Innovate Green Energy) where they promote their WWF SA award-winning innovation.
