Western Cape Chapter Presents Ethics in Technology

August 25, 2016 @ 17:00 - 19:00

IITPSA Members attending this event will earn CPD / LLL points

Abstract:

Technology enables and disrupts. It can be used for society or against it. In the hands of responsible people, it advances long-term value creation; in the hands of the irresponsible, it has the potential to jeopardise the future. Technology changes how we share information, how we manage operations, how we teach and learn, how we preserve and multiply knowledge in and between organisations. It is no wonder, therefore, that corporate managers and board directors are becoming more and more wary about the connections between technology and risk, especially now that we are in the age of the internet of things and the fourth industrial revolution. Technology may appear to be simply neutral and instrumental, but forthcoming from the minds and purposes of human beings its applications become inevitably ethically sensitive. Someone once said, “somebody has moved the morality of my mouse”.

The presentation will:

Enlighten participants on recent developments regarding the links between technology and ethics.
Enable participants to straddle the worlds of professional and organisational ethics in the area of technology.
Facilitate the identification of topics for ongoing conversations on ethics and technology in the IT profession.
