Ten committee members have been elected to head up the Eastern Cape Chapter of the Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) for 2021.

During the Chapter’s AGM this week, members voted to appoint three new committee members to join the existing committee of seven, strengthening the small, but active chapter’s leadership.

The new committee members are Belinda Samuels, Prof. Kerry-Lynn Thomson and Luzuko Tekeni. They will work with existing committee members Prof. Lynn Futcher, Kuda Nyamutsambira, Michael Georgiou, Devereaux Joubert, Harry Paleochoritis, Dr. Sue Petratos and Prof. Andre Calitz. Office bearers will be elected at the Committee’s first meeting.

Acting Committee Chair, Prof. Lynn Futcher, said the new committee represented a strong mix of academics and professionals with industry experience. She noted that the Chapter’s 2020 Committee Chair, Dr. Lester Cowley, resigned in October in order to relocate to Cape Town. On behalf of the Chapter and its Committee, she thanked him for his years of service and dedication to the Chapter.

Prof. Futcher noted that the Covid-19 pandemic had disrupted the Chapter’s events schedule for the past year, notably the 2020 Eastern Cape IT awards, which are a highlight on the province’s IT calendar. The Chapter was considering either holding the awards towards the end of this year, or staging it as a virtual event, she said.
