President’s Podium

September was a buzz of activity in Sri Lanka’s ICT community. Fellow IITPSA colleagues and I attended IP3 meetings, the IFIP General Assembly and presented at the SEARCC and Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) ICT Conference.

South Africa was well represented at the IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) General Assembly. Rossouw von Solms, Basie von Solms, Moira de Roche and I (as an observer) attended the annual gathering of societies and associations for people working in Information and Communication Technologies and Sciences. Most of the research papers presented at IFIP events over many years are available in the IFIP Open Digital Library at https://hal.inria.fr/IFIP. The content of these papers is available to members of IITPSA and provides a wealth of knowledge.

A few days prior to the IFIP GA, our Honorary Treasurer, Director and Past President, Moira de Roche, was elected as the new IP3 chair. The International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3) is a project of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), the global body for ICT professionals. Moira, who previously served as Vice Chair and has been active in IP3 since its inception, takes over from Brenda Aynsley of Australia, who stepped down after six years as leader.  We are very proud of Moira and wish her all the best in her new role.

CSSL in collaboration with SEARCC hosted its biggest ICT conference in history. Moira and I shared the podium and our topic was about Responsive and Responsible Leadership. With all that is happening in our country, and the rest of the world, now is when we need responsive and responsible leadership the most!

It is that time of the year again where we recognise and acknowledge our ICT entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders. The nominations have closed and the final stage of judging is about to commence.
