Prof Jean Greyling is from the Department of Computing Sciences at Nelson Mandela University. Over the past 4 years he has been instrumental in facilitating over 200 bursaries worth R25 Million for students in the department. Since 2016 he has been rolling out the coding app TANKS. TANKS was developed by his Honours student Byron Batteson, and aims at introducing learners to coding concepts with the use of tangible tokens and image recognition, thus not needing a computer. Over 5000 learners from mainly disadvantaged communities have been reached in coding workshops across all 9 provinces.
