The Finals of the Standard Bank IT challenge were held in Johannesburg this week.  Like in 2012, the University of Cape Town produced the winning team, but this time Stellenbosch University came close to beating them

Both teams solved all seven problems.  When this happens the winning team is chosen on time.  The timing is complicated because there is a penalty every time a team submits an incorrect solution.

First – “Some Bumbling Idiots Trying to Code” from the University of Cape Town.   (Genuinely – this is the name of the team)

The university received R170 000 and each team member received a laptop

Second – “Facepalm.gif” from Stellenbosch University

The university received R20 000 and each team member received a Dell Tablet

Third with five problems solved – “Thabang Knightriders” from the University of the Witwatersrand

The university received R10 000 and each team member received a digital photo frame

Some facts and stats:

Nine Universities and two Standard Bank teams took part in the Finals

The eleven teams submitted 90 solutions and not a single one had a compilation error!

Of the solutions submitted, 53 were correct

11 wrong answers

9 timed out

The rest crashed, but there were no format errors
