The WSIS 2016 Forum was held in Geneva Switzerland from 02 to 06 May 2016 and was attended by our very own Director and Honorary Treasurer Ms Moira de Roche, who is also the Deputy Chairperson of IFIP’s IP3. The outcomes of the Forum may be accessed at https://www.itu.int/net4/wsis/forum/2016/Outcomes/#ft

Notable amongst the outcomes (see http://bit.ly/1Xwfg7H), is that of the thematic workshop on “The Contribution IFIP IP3 Makes to WSIS SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), with an Emphasis on Providing Trustworthy ICT Infrastructure and Services”.

“Main conclusions reached during the discussion were:

International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) believes that the creation and maintenance of ICT as a global profession is a strategic outcome. Alignment of this goal to AL C1, and how a trusted ICT service can deliver services that address the needs of society at all levels was explored.

We must find ways to provide equitable education for all, including ICT Professionals on the supply-side, as well as consumers of ICT services. Platforms with curated content should be built for this purpose – but getting buy-in to this is always problematic because of the economic imperative…”

“The vision for implementation of WSIS Action lines beyond 2015:

IFIP IP3 will continue to deliver on SDG Goal 17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development; SDG Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation; SDG Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning; and Action Line C5. Building confidence and security in the use of ICTs.”
