Topic: Next generation data platforms

The talk will cover real-time push based data ingestion pipelines, data queue integration, data-governance, real-time stream processing using Lambda based architectures and recommendation engines behind that. Mention of Spark, Storm, Kafka, Kinesis, Akka systems and other systems will be included.

The speaker: Justin Gane (from England)

Justin is an entrepreneur that has been working in IT for the past 13 years. His personal passion is real-time personalisation and recommendation architectures and all technologies that go along with that.

He has been a lead developer for highly scalable, high traffic platforms for real-time scoring, such as Manutd.com, Opengolf, Wimbledon, ESPN, Cadburys Olympic websites and VISA. He has worked as an architecture consultant for LoveFilm.com (Netflix’s UK competition) and at Amazon.com for 3 and half years as a platform migration architect. As a business owner and Technical Director for 1Digit, he has architected and built some of the largest Sitecore web-based platforms in the UK, Universal Music, Asos.com, Euromoney, Virginactive international, etc. In the data arena he has architected and built data systems for some of the most successful data driven businesses in the UK.

He is a post-graduate from the Department of Computing Sciences at NMMU.
