Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (SIGAIR)

SIGAIR is an IITPSA Special Interest Group (SIG) in South Africa for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics community. The idea of the SIG is to bring people together from diverse backgrounds who are either practitioners of, or interested in AI and Robotics. The adoption of AI is especially relevant for South African businesses if we are to compete in global markets. We need to separate the hype around these technologies from the realities and work together as a business community to embrace it and to empower our workforce to be ready for its impact. Local leaders in the fields of AI, Robotics, Cognition and Machine Learning will be part of the SIG committee.
The objectives of the group are:

  • To promote knowledge sharing for both the computing and business community
  • To facilitate discussion, debate and cooperation between business leaders
  • To encourage discussion with government and policymakers
  • To study the potential impact of these technologies on our local economy (unemployment and re-skilling)
  • To host monthly discussion meetings and an annual conference / workshop
  • To recognise local achievements in AI and Robotics advancement
