The first meeting of women professionals interested in supporting our Women in IT (WIIT) chapter was staged this month, and we were excited to see the calibre of women professionals willing to give of their time and energy to help drive WIIT’s programmes.

With women accounting for less than 30% of the global tech workforce, WIIT aims to help close the ICT sector gender gap by encouraging girls to enter the profession, and supporting women working in the profession.  We thank the volunteers who have stepped forward to participate in WIIT initiatives, and look forward to working with them to open new doors into the ICT industry for our young women. The 8th of March is international women’s day, so it is fitting that we begin to energise our programmes with a greater pool of skills and resources in the coming month.

Also, in line with our skills development initiatives, our Computer Olympiad Talent Search programme gets underway nationwide on 4 March.

Talent Search is one of three major activities under the IITPSA Computer Olympiad umbrella, which are designed to offer activities for all ages and skill levels, to encourage young South Africans to develop their ICT skills and ultimately enter the ICT sector.

The Talent Search is available online or as a pen and paper test, and is free to schools. Please encourage teachers to register their schools to participate.

We further encourage members to engage and participate in their regional chapter AGMs. The Gauteng Chapter AGM and the KZN Chapter AGM will be held soon. Please watch your mailboxes for your invitation.

Warm regards,
Senele Goba,
President of the IITPSA
