SIGiST Event – Apprenticeships – build job knowledge and industry skills while earning a salary
November 12, 2014 @ 17:30 - 19:00
12th November 17:30 to 19:00 |
Abstract: Apprenticeships were first documented in the Babylonian Code of Hammurabi (~1754 BC) but were practised long before. Apprenticeships were a pathway to job entry in industrial South Africa. After a slump in apprentices in South Africa in the late 1990s, they are once again swelling job numbers in numerous fields including in IT and testing. They are a good way to help to start solving the skills crisis in South Africa.
Learn the pros and some cons of apprenticeships for individuals and employers around the world and in South Africa. Learn the important stakeholders in apprenticeships, then give apprenticeships, now also called Internships and Learnerships a try. See how apprenticeships can bridge the gap between the theory and on the job skills and experience required for work success. About the Presenter(s) Wayne Mallinson Wayne Mallinson has 27 years of IT and software testing experience.
