WSIS Forum 2015

The ITU, UNESCO, UNCTA and UNDP are pleased to invite you to the WSIS Forum 2015, which the ITU will host in Geneva (Switzerland) from 25 to 29 May 2015. The WSIS Forum 2015 represents the world’s largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community and is co-organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD, in close collaboration with all WSIS Action Line Facilitators/Co-Facilitators (UNDESA, FAO, UNEP, WHO, UN Women, WIPO, WFP, ILO, WMO, UN, ITC, UPU, UNODC, UNICEF and UN Regional Commissions).

The WSIS Forum 2015 will be held in ITU and WIPO Headquarters in Geneva Switzerland. This event builds upon the tradition of annual WSIS May meetings, and its format is the result of open consultations with all WSIS Stakeholders. The WSIS Forum 2015 Open Consultation Process on the Thematic Aspects and Innovations on the Format aims at ensuring the participatory and inclusive spirit of the WSIS Forum 2015 by actively engaging governments, civil society, the private sector and intergovernmental organizations in the preparatory process. The Agenda and Programme of the WSIS Forum will be built on the basis of the official submissions received during the Open Consultation Process.
Open Consultation Process
All WSIS Stakeholders are invited to contribute to the Open Consultation Process on the Thematic Aspects and Innovations on the Format of the WSIS Forum 2015. The Open Consultation Process for the WSIS Forum 2015 is structured in five phases as follows:
- Phase I: 30 November 2014 – Opening of the Open Consultations: Official Submissions.
- Phase II: 30 January 2015 – First Physical Meeting, ITU Headquarters, Geneva
- Phase III: 6 February 2015 – Deadline for Submission of Official Contributions and Binding Requests for Workshops.

Phase IV: 2 March 2015 – Final Review Meeting, Popov Room, ITU Headquarters, Geneva
- Phase V: 24 April 2015 – Final Brief (Remote Participation will be available)
High-Level Policy Statements
Policy Statements will be delivered during the High-Level Track (26-27 May 2015) Forum by high-ranking officials of the wider WSIS Stakeholder community, representing the Government, Private Sector, Civil Society, Academia and International Organizations to express their views and report on the achievements, challenges and recommendations on the implementation of WSIS Action Lines, emerging trends, innovation and matters of strategic importance to the development of the telecommunication and information and communication technology sector.
Governments, the Private Sector, Civil Society, Academia and International Organizations are invited to register for a speaking slot for their high-level officials. Speaking slots will be allocated according to ITU protocol. Due to time constraints the speaking slots will be limited to a maximum of three minutes. However, longer versions of statements will be posted on the WSIS Forum website and will be available as an outcome of the WSIS Forum 2015 in the form of an online WSIS Forum 2015 Policy Statement Booklet.
Requests for a speaking slot for delivering a Policy Statement should be made online. Deadline for requests: 24 April 2015 (Non-Extendable).
