This talk presents a critical overview of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Industry 4.0 is the subset of the Fourth Industrial Revolution that concerns industry. Industry 4.0 describes the trend towards automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies and processes, leading to Smart Factories. The IIoT, a subset of the IoT, refers to IP networks of uniquely identifiable sensors, actuators, connected machines, other devices and humans within Smart Factories.
