As I take over the reins from IITPSA’s previous president, Wellington Matope, I want to thank him for laying the foundation from which the Leadership Team has been executing the various initiatives that will help enhance the Institute’s relevance within the ICT Industry.

I cannot let this opportunity pass by without acknowledging the energy, passion and dedication shown by the IITPSA’s Executive Council.  It takes a special kind of people to give up so much of their time to strive for the growth of professionalism and the professional use of ICT throughout the country.

During my tenure I intend to initiate a closer engagement with the members of IITPSA in order to ensure that your voices are being heard, and collectively we can make a difference in the ICT sector. We are very proud to be the only IT professional body recognized by SAQA.

We all know that August is Woman’s Month. So what does that mean for you and me? Well, I, for one, normally get invited to fancy breakfasts and tea parties with some amazing key note speakers and we get to enjoy a day off from work. But many of us don’t know and/or appreciate the meaning behind these special days. We need to celebrate the achievements of the women who endured, and those who still endure, the struggle for empowerment rights to equality. We honour the 20 000 woman who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria 59 years ago to hand over a petition protesting against the country’s pass laws. We honour the millions of women who today continue to push themselves past their comfort zones and fight for what is fair and just.

Whilst I write this, I have to keep reminding myself that about 80% of the readership are men as a result of the gender split in the ICT sector. Why is that so? How do we get more woman into IT? I would like to hear your thoughts on this (president@iitpsa.org.za).

I would like to leave you with a quote:  “In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can”. Nikos Kazantzakis

Ciao for now
