Game theory and its application in Bitcoin: An IITPSA KZN Chapter Blockchain SIG Event, 29 June 2021

16h30 – 17h30

Game theory is a way of thinking about strategic interactions between self-interested actors. Bitcoin is well known for its use of cryptography and the immutable blockchain but game theory also plays a subtle but important part as it aligns the behaviour of the actors in the network so that they are incentivised to execute actions that benefit the whole network. This event will discuss the basic ideas behind game theory and, through a series of simple examples, it will introduce the audience to some of the major concepts. The behaviour of the actors in the bitcoin network are then examined to see how they align to these theoretical concepts.
