The Role of Ubuntu in the Global AI Ethics inclusion discourse: 25 October 2022: AN IITPSA Social and Ethics Event

Presenter:

Arthur Gwagwa, Ph.D. researcher in the philosophy and ethics of socially disruptive technologies argues that the value of Ubuntu could be of immense value in AI applied normative ethics, particularly toward an inclusive approach for the implementation of the universal AI ethics principles and guidelines.

Arthur will explore how the global AI ethics community can include views from Sub-Saharan Africa as a way to improve the terms on which African populations, subpopulations and their concerns are included in the global AI ethics discourses to avoid being excluded from the current fourth industrial revolution.

Moderator: Josine Overdevest

Josine Overdevest is the founder and MD of 21st century educator coaching organisation Flying Cows of Jozi, non-executive director of the Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) and chair of the IITPSA Social and Ethics Committee.
