I am Byron Batteson, a software developer at Amazon Web Services. During my
studies, I built an educational game to introduce children (and adults!) to some
fundamental programming concepts. Since then, I’ve built an additional game and
worked with Jean Greyling, my honours supervisor, and the Leva Foundation to
reach as many learners as possible.

I am most proud of the bursaries that have been awarded to young learners
through this project by sponsors such as Dimension Data and David Brown, a
vice president at Amazon Web Services.

I have been supporting the Tangible Africa initiative in my spare time, wherever
possible, to ensure that the games can run on the most limited mobile devices
without a network connection. My goal is to spread awareness of computer-related
professions and, ideally, raise awareness for the need to continuously improve
the quality and availability of education.
